Get Long Eyelashes with these 8 Easy Tips

eyelash must do'sDo you yearn for long eyelashes? You buy so many products to make your hair healthy and shiny. You spend money and do thorough research to ensure you have the perfect glow and youthful skin. But do you give the same attention to your eyelashes? Aside from applying mascara before leaving the house? Here are some fun good-to-know facts about our eyelashes and must-do’s to have luscious long eyelashes:

1) Clean thoroughly

It all starts with a clean face! Make sure you wash your face before sleeping this includes gently cleaning the eye area, especially if you have eye makeup on. Your eyelashes can possibly weigh down or break if you leave the mascara overnight. Use makeup remover that is specifically made for the eye area. Not all makeup removers though can thoroughly remove waterproof mascara so choose the one that is most effective for you. Usually, oil-based eye makeup remover works  in removing waterproof makeup. Gently massage on your eyelashes or use cotton buds to remove product close to the lash line. You can also soak a cotton pad with makeup remover and lightly press it on your lids for a few seconds. This will dissolve the mascara, making it easy to get rid of the product completely without the need to rub. Rubbing is not advisable since it can cause some eyelashes to break or fall out. Rinse with lukewarm water.

2) Always be gentle with your eyes

A bad habit that must be stopped is rubbing the eyes. The roots of the eyelashes are delicate, so they easily break even without exerting too much force. You can lose a few strands of long eyelashes by rubbing and they may or may not grow back. Rubbing the eyes can also pose a threat to your health. The hands can be one of the dirtiest parts of the body since you touch or hold all sorts of things that can possibly have germs. When you rub your eyes, you can easily get infections. Therefore, rubbing the eyes is not only bad for your eyelashes, but also poses a danger to your health.

3) Moisturize

Just like the skin and hair, long eyelashes must also be moisturized to make them healthy and strong. You can use Vaseline to condition the eyelashes. Use a cotton swab or a clean eyelash brush to apply the petroleum jelly on your eyelashes. Fingertips can also be used but only if hands are very clean. Oils from the hands can transfer to the eyelashes, which will be sealed by the jelly. This can cause eye irritations. Also, for sanitation purposes, do no dip the cotton swab or eyelash brush in the jar of Vaseline. Just get some product using a spatula. Then, roll the cotton swab or eyelash brush on your eyelashes as if you’re applying mascara. Do the same for your lower eyelashes. Wipe off any excess petroleum jelly on the skin to avoid clogging of pores or any skin reactions.

4) Curl long eyelashes with care

Curling eyelashes can instantly make eyelashes look longer and eyes bigger, but you also need to be cautious when curling.

    • First, the quality of eyelash curler matters. A good one has a smooth metal plate, this is a worthy investment.
    • Clean eyelash curler before using. Product and oil build up on the metal and rubber can cause infection.
    • When using the curler, do not pull the eyelashes or pinch the skin. Clamp the base and press the curler lightly. Hold this for a few seconds before releasing. Move the curler halfway and clamp and hold the curler again. For the final press, curl the tip of the eyelashes.
    • Some use a blow dryer to heat up the eyelash curler before using it on the eyelashes. This technique can curl the eyelashes easily and, at the same time, hold the curl longer. But,  just like your hair on your head, heat can cause damage to eyelashes. Make sure the curler is not too hot as to burn them. Test the warmth at the back of your hand first before using it to curl the eyelashes.
    • For sanitation purposes, replace eyelash curler every 3 months. If you have a quality curler,  replace the rubber padding regularly.

5) Prime

The same way you use primer on your face as a preparatory step on applying makeup, eyelashes have primers too. Use primer before applying mascara to condition the eyelashes as some mascaras can be drying. Lash primer usually comes in white liquid, which can be bought separately or with the mascara. This helps in making the eyelashes appear thicker and longer. Do not forget to wipe the wand with clean paper towel before application. When applying the lash primer, start at the base of the eyelashes. Keep it as close as possible to the eyelid and brush upwards in a zigzag motion to coat the lash hair.

6) Mascara

Of course, mascara is the key for instant luscious long eyelashes.

    • First, do not skimp on mascaras. It is something that you apply near your eyes and you can get irritations easily. Some mascaras can also make the eyelashes dry and brittle so choose carefully.
    • Before applying mascara, wipe off any excess mascara on the wand by gliding the brush over a tissue. This will prevent eyelashes from clumping. Take note also that sharing of mascara wands is not advisable. If you are sharing a mascara, use disposable wands instead.
    • Now to keep your eyelashes curled, start applying at the base of your eyelashes in a zigzag motion, and then lightly brush up to the tips. The reason why sometimes lashes weigh down after a few hours is that there is too much product on the tips, making it heavy. To avoid this, you need to have a heavier coat of mascara at the base and a lighter coat towards the tips.
    • If you really have thin and sparse eyelashes, coat both sides of your lashes.
    • If you want thicker eye lashes, wiggle the brush left to right. If you wish to have longer looking lashes, hold the mascara wand vertically and brush along the length of the lashes using the tip of the wand.
    • Another trick to give volume to your lashes is to dust translucent powder in between your first and second coat of mascara.
    • When de-clumping mascara, use a clean lash comb or toothbrush. Comb it through the hair lashes from root to tip to remove the excess mascara and clumps. Do this while mascara is still wet. Combing through dried clumps can result in lash breakage.

7) Biotin

A Biotin vitamin supplement can strengthen nails and hair, but it is also effective in strengthening lashes. Hairfinity hair vitamins also contain Biotin. Not only will it make lashes stronger, it will also aid in improving your overall health.
